Richmond: Chevron refinery flaring; company says it's OK

Published Sunday June 19

RICHMOND — Flaring from the Chevron refinery Sun drew attention from West County residents who saw smoke and flames, but a company spokeswoman stated there was no cause for alarm.

According to reports on social media, some smoke was seen around four in the afternoon followed by more smoke around 9:15 in the afternoon

Workers were still investigating to see which refinery unit encountered conditions leading to the flaring, Chevron spokeswoman Leah Casey said.

We were flaring earlier, and then it stopped for a while, Casey said. We just recently learned that it started flaring again.
